Jaipur News Desk: No government will be able to stop the pension and other facilities to MISA prisoners who were put into jail under the Internal Security Act (MISA) during the Emergency. For this the Bhajan Lal government will bring an Act. Deliberations are going on at the high level in the government to implement the pension act. If sources are to be believed, the government is preparing to bring a bill on MISA pension in this budget session itself. After discussing the bill in the Vidhan Sabha, it will be passed in this session itself. There are more than 1100 MISA and DIR prisoners in the state, who were put in jails from the imposition of Emergency on 26 June 1975 till 1977.
BJP had made this promise in its manifesto
For the first time in Rajasthan, in the year 2008, the then BJP government had started a pension of Rs. 6000 and medical aid of Rs. 500 per month for MISA prisoners, calling them fighters of democracy. In the manifesto for the assembly elections, the BJP had also promised to bring an act for MISA prisoners.
In 2009 and 2019, the Congress government had stopped the pension
In the year 2009 and 2019, Congress had stopped the pension and other facilities of MISA prisoners. During the assembly elections held in the year 2023, BJP had raised the issue of pension of MISA prisoners. After the formation of BJP government in the state, Bhajanlal government decided to start pension of MISA prisoners. Pension was made 20 thousand rupees and medical assistance was made four thousand rupees per month. The government is now moving forward with a positive attitude towards the promise made by the party in its Sankalp Patra regarding MISA prisoners.
