Udaipur, October 7: A major accident was narrowly avoided at the Government Primary School in Narda, Bhinder, when plaster from the ceiling suddenly fell on 32 students attending class on Tuesday morning. Three children sustained injuries, while two others suffered minor wounds. First-grade student Krishna Kumari, along with Karthik and fifth grader Ganeshlal, were injured on their heads and were taken to the government hospital in Bhinder, where they received treatment and were later sent home.
The incident has raised serious questions about the safety of dilapidated school buildings. The school, built in 2001, has reportedly been in poor condition for a long time. According to Headmaster Lalsingh Shaktawat, the education department had previously been informed about the building’s deteriorating state, yet classes continued to be held there.
Building Locked After Incident
In response to the incident, the education department and local administration have locked the school building as a precaution. Classes will now be conducted at an alternative location near Mataji’s Chabutra. A total of 37 students are enrolled in the school up to the fifth grade, and the building consists of two rooms and a veranda, all of which are reported to be in poor condition.
Community Raises Concerns
Local residents and parents have expressed their frustration, stating that they had repeatedly informed responsible officials about the building’s dilapidated condition. They question why children were allowed to study in such a hazardous environment. Following the incident, C.B.E.O. Bhinder Rajendra Kumar Chobisa visited the site to assess the situation. Fortunately, only the plaster fell this time, and the entire ceiling did not collapse. Had a larger section of the ceiling fallen, it could have posed a serious threat to the children’s lives. The condition of this 25-year-old building has once again highlighted serious concerns regarding the safety of children in government schools.
