Jaipur : The Rajasthan High Court has suspended the life sentence of five accused – Omprakash, Dinesh Kumar, Rampal, Anuj, and Aamir – who were serving life imprisonment in the case of the murder of then-police inspector Mukesh Kanungo and constable of Sikar.
The court has also ordered their release on bail. However, the court rejected the bail applications of the main accused Ajay Chaudhary and Jagdeep. The bench of Justice Indrajit Singh and Justice Ashutosh Kumar passed this order while hearing the bail petitions filed by the accused in their criminal appeal.
The accused argued that they have been in jail for five years in the case. They are not accused of directly firing at the CI and constable. The map from the scene also proves that only the main accused Ajay and Jagdeep were present at the scene. The weapon recovery also does not match the FSL report. The disposal of the appeal will take time. Therefore, their sentence should be suspended till the disposal of the appeal.
The state government argued that the accused had killed two policemen. So, their sentence cannot be suspended. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court suspended the life imprisonment of the five accused and rejected the bail pleas of the two main accused.
It is noteworthy that on the night of October 6, 2018, the accused shot and killed police inspector Mukesh Kanungo and constable Ramprakash during the patrol. The Fatehpur ADJ Court had sentenced the accused to life imprisonment on July 11, 2023. The accused had challenged this order in the High Court.
