Jaipur : Scrub typhus cases are increasing in Rajasthan. It is becoming a challenge for people living in rural areas. Scrub typhus spreads due to the bite of insects (mites). When this insect bites someone, it injects bacteria (Orientia tsutsugamushi) into the bloodstream, which causes scrub typhus. If there is a fever after going to the bushes or forest, then this should be told to the doctor and a test for scrub typhus should also be done. Most of the cases are coming from Karauli, Dholpur, Sawai Madhopur, Gangapur City, Udaipur and Jaipur.

Bite marks are formed in only 40% of people

The risk of scrub typhus increases during the rainy season. Such insects thrive in bushes, pastures and forests. They sometimes stick to people. After sticking, they suck blood and then leave. The bite of this insect leaves a mark in only 40% of the people. Due to which people do not know that they have been bitten by an insect.

Symptoms of Scrub Typhus Disease

The initial symptoms of scrub typhus are fever. Due to this the patient often feels cold. Along with this there is severe pain in the muscles and joints. The patient gets mild fever, then it becomes severe. There is swelling in the throat. Hemoglobin and platelets keep decreasing. Sometimes pneumonia also occurs. There is constant headache in this disease. Scrub typhus disrupts the functioning of the respiratory system and causes cough and breathing problems. The patient experiences constant stomach pain and diarrhea. Therefore, whenever there is fever, we must get tested for scrub typhus.

Measures to prevent scrub typhus disease

Avoid areas with lots of grass or greenery. Avoid dense woods or grassy areas as these are home to chiggers. When outdoors, keep your arms and legs covered. Wear long-sleeved clothing and full pants. Check your clothing, accessories, and other wearables regularly, especially after spending time outdoors. Use insect repellents registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Spray infested areas with insecticides. Applying 0.5% permethrin to clothing, shoes, and gear kills mites. Keep the surroundings of the home clean. Clear out mite populations using a cleaning brush and other supplies.
