Jaisalmer News Desk: There is good news for the wildlife lovers and researchers of Jaisalmer. The “Common Crane”, which is considered to be a lookalike of the Kuranja bird, has finally reached the Lathi area. Along with the Demoiselle Crane, which migrates every year from Central Asia to Rajasthan, India, especially Jaisalmer, now its lookalike Common Crane has also started arriving. A flock of Common Crane was seen near Dholiya village on Friday morning. This bird looks similar to the Kurjan, due to which common people often make mistakes in identifying it. Only ornithologists can identify it on the basis of its special characteristics.

Common cranes have been coming to India for five years

Common cranes have been regularly migrating to this area for the last five years. Both the common crane and the crane come to India in late August or first week of September. Kurjans migrate in large numbers from cold regions like Siberia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia. The migration of these birds lasts for about six months and they return to their native places in February-March. However, this time the Common Crane has arrived in the Lathi area with a slight delay, which has increased the enthusiasm among environmentalists and bird lovers.

Saw it for the first time in Jaisalmer’s Lathi
Last year, Common Crane was seen for the first time in Kojeri Nadi of Lathi area. Its presence aroused special interest among environmentalists and researchers. This species, which looks like the crane, has given an opportunity for new studies in the field of ornithology. Its arrival this year has also given researchers an opportunity to study the similarities and differences between the crane and the common crane.

Distance covered in miles despite heavy body
Both the birds are almost similar in appearance, but according to experts, there is a slight difference in their behaviour, voice and flying style. Apart from this, the common stork is heavier than the Siberian stork. And despite having a heavy body, it has come here after covering a distance of 4161 KM. According to environmentalists, these birds make the biodiversity and environmental importance of Jaisalmer more special. The arrival of this migratory bird is giving a new direction to the wildlife conservation efforts in the area and is also attracting local and international bird lovers.
