Trump Congratulates Ali Al-Zaidi on Iraq Prime Minister Nomination

Washington, April 30: U.S. President Donald Trump has congratulated Ali Al-Zaidi on his nomination as the next Prime Minister of Iraq.

The official X handle of the White House, Rapid Response 47, shared President Trump‘s post on Truth Social, stating, “Heartfelt congratulations to Ali Al-Zaidi on his nomination as the next Prime Minister of Iraq! We wish him success in his efforts to form a new government free from terrorism that can ensure a bright future for Iraq. We look forward to a strong, vibrant, and highly productive new relationship between Iraq and the United States. This marks the beginning of an unprecedented new chapter between our nations, filled with prosperity, stability, and remarkable success. Once again, congratulations, Ali.”

Iraq’s newly elected president nominated businessman Ali Al-Zaidi for the position of Prime Minister on April 27, as he received support from the country’s main Shia coalition.

President Nizar Amadi has tasked the candidate Ali Al-Zaidi from the largest parliamentary bloc with forming a new government. This announcement came shortly after the Coordination Framework declared Al-Zaidi as their candidate, a coalition of Shia groups with various ties to Iran, which had previously nominated Maliki.

However, President Donald Trump’s ultimatum changed the situation. In January, Trump threatened to halt all forms of support to Iraq if the two-time former Prime Minister Maliki, known for his close ties to Iran, returned to power.

On Monday, the Coordination Framework praised the “historic and responsible stance” of Maliki and caretaker Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani in withdrawing their candidacies.
