
Beijing, May 15: Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump held a private meeting at the Zhongnanhai leadership compound in Beijing on Friday, just before Trump’s departure from China. This meeting followed a formal discussion between the two leaders the previous day.
According to China’s state news agency Xinhua, Xi warmly welcomed Trump upon his arrival at Zhongnanhai. The two leaders were seen walking and conversing in the compound’s gardens, admiring the trees and flowers.
Xi stated that Trump’s visit was “historic and a milestone,” emphasizing that both countries have set a new direction for constructive China-US relations based on strategic stability. He highlighted the significant agreements reached to maintain stable economic and trade relations, enhance practical cooperation in various fields, and address each other’s concerns adequately.
Furthermore, Xi noted that both nations agreed to strengthen dialogue and coordination on international and regional issues. He mentioned that this visit would bolster mutual understanding and trust, benefiting the people of both countries.
The Chinese President remarked that the world expects China and the US to adopt a path of peaceful coexistence and cooperation based on mutual respect. He pointed out that while Trump speaks of making “America great again,” he is working towards the national rejuvenation of the Chinese people.
Xi emphasized the need for both countries to maintain the positive momentum and advance their relations in a stable direction. In response, Trump expressed gratitude for Xi’s invitation to Zhongnanhai, calling his trip to China a tremendous success that garnered global attention.
Trump noted that several important agreements were made, numerous deals were signed, and various issues were resolved, benefiting both nations and the world. He referred to Xi as his “old friend,” expressing deep respect for him and highlighting the strong relationship established between the two leaders.
Trump affirmed the importance of US-China relations and expressed optimism for their future, stating his desire to continue honest and in-depth dialogue with Xi while inviting him to visit Washington.
During their discussions, the leaders exchanged views on several regional and global issues before Trump departed from Beijing, concluding his visit to China.
