Beijing, May 23: China Media Group (CMG) recently conducted an interview with UNESCO Director-General Khaled Al-Anani in the Chinese capital, Beijing. During the interview, Al-Anani emphasized that China is one of UNESCO’s most important partners. He noted that the cooperation between UNESCO and China has extended beyond bilateral ties to encompass the ‘Global South,’ with both parties collaborating across all functional areas of UNESCO, including education, science, culture, communication, and information.
On May 12, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Al-Anani in Beijing, reiterating China’s strong support for dialogue between civilizations and advocating for mutual exchange and learning. Al-Anani stated that this ideology aligns perfectly with UNESCO’s mission.
He further remarked that various crises are currently spreading across the world, and enhancing mutual understanding among people from different countries is a crucial mission for UNESCO in preventing conflicts. Al-Anani stressed that UNESCO should not be politicized; instead, it must serve all of humanity with an impartial and neutral approach.
