This is how lighting lamps started
According to mythological belief, on the day of Diwali, Lord Shri Ram reached his city Ayodhya after killing Ravana and ending 14 years of exile. Since it was Amavasya on this day, the city residents welcomed Lord Shri Ram grandly by lighting lamps. When Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after conquering Lanka, the people of Ayodhya welcomed Lord Ram by lighting a garland of lamps. Since then the tradition of celebrating this day as Deepotsav started.
Importance of lighting lamps on Diwali
Lighting earthen lamps on the day of Diwali is considered very auspicious. There is a religious belief that by doing this, Goddess Lakshmi arrives in the house, which creates an atmosphere of happiness and prosperity in the family. It is said that Goddess Lakshmi arrives on earth on the day of Diwali. In this way, Goddess Lakshmi is welcomed by lighting a lamp, so that she can enter the house.

That’s why ghee lamps are lit
According to the beliefs of astrology, if mustard oil is poured into an earthen lamp and lit on the day of Diwali, it strengthens the planet Saturn. Due to which all kinds of troubles go away and happiness and peace prevail in the house. At the same time, lighting a lamp of cow ghee is considered auspicious to get the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. Therefore, there is a tradition of lighting the first lamp on the night of Diwali for Goddess Lakshmi.
