Pali : A 30-year-old man, who was in police custody for a kidnap-gangrape case, committed suicide in the lockup of the Jaitaran police station in Pali district. The man, identified as Rakesh Siervi, made a noose out of a blanket and hanged himself around 3:15 AM on Thursday night. The family has accused the police of torturing and killing the man.
Upon receiving the information, Jaitaran DSP Seema Chauhan, ASP Himanshu Jangid, and Jaitaran ACM arrived at the police station. In the presence of the magistrate, the body was videographed, brought down from the noose, and kept in the hospital mortuary. SP Narendra Singh Chaudhary said that Rakesh Siervi, a resident of Chawdia Kala village, was arrested in a kidnap and gangrape case at 5:30 PM yesterday.
At 1:30 AM, the duty officer had gone near the lockup and checked, and everything was fine. Rakesh Siervi made a noose from the mesh above the barrack. Another accused was sleeping with him, who was arrested under the NDPS Act. He informed the policemen present there. The entire incident of hanging is on CCTV.
The young man had kidnapped a young woman from her house. Rakesh took the young woman to a rented house in Balda village. During this time, the young woman somehow took a mobile phone and called the police and informed them about her kidnap. The police then arrested the young man. The family’s allegations of catching and torturing five days ago are false. Meanwhile, police sources said that this is the fourth case of rape against the accused. The accused had already gone to jail in three cases.
Rakesh’s brother Ramesh Siervi said that the police had caught Rakesh five days ago. The policemen are now saying that he was arrested only on Thursday. The police did not tell anything at that time as to why he was arrested. Rakesh was put in the car in front of his father and taken to the police station. Ramesh said that what was the police doing when a person hanged himself in the police station? The police tortured and killed Rakesh. Ramesh demanded an investigation into the matter and action against the policemen. The deceased Rakesh was a farmer.
