India Secures Air Superiority in Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor Overview

The Indian Air Force (IAF) achieved significant Air Superiority over Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, held from May 7 to May 10, 2025. A recently published report by the Centre d’Histoire et de Prospective Militaires (CHPM) highlights how Indian strikes devastated Pakistani air capability, prompting Islamabad to seek a ceasefire within days.

Strategic Air Strikes

According to the 47-page assessment authored by military analyst Adrien Fontanellaz, India conducted deep-penetration strikes that effectively crippled the Pakistan Air Force (PAF). The IAF’s operational freedom allowed for precision strikes deep within Pakistani territory, utilizing advanced munitions, including BrahMos and SCALP-EG cruise missiles. The report notes that the escalating losses forced Pakistan to abandon effective counter-attacks.

Damage Assessment and Ceasefire

By May 10, the IAF inflicted substantial damage on multiple targets, including air bases and military installations in Pakistan, resulting in the destruction of numerous Pakistani aircraft and other military assets. The operational feasibility for Pakistan was critically undermined, leading to a swift Pakistani request for a ceasefire, which was accepted by India.
