Controversial Songs Garner More Views: Jishu Sengupta

Mumbai, March 31: Renowned Bengali cinema actor Jishu Sengupta recently shared his candid views on the ongoing debate surrounding controversial songs. In a special interview, he stated that the more opposition these songs face, the more people tend to listen to them, which he believes is the primary reason for their popularity.

Sengupta remarked, “You cannot blame the lyricists or creators, as people are choosing to listen to these songs themselves. The songs that create controversy receive the most views and likes. If you don’t like these songs, then don’t listen to them.”

He further emphasized the diversity of content available in the industry, mentioning the presence of legends like Gulzar and Javed Akhtar. “What you choose to listen to is entirely up to you. Listen to what you like,” he added.

Sengupta also expressed his preference for staying away from negativity. “I could say something that would escalate the controversy, but I don’t want to do that. There is already enough negativity around us; why add to it? I am a positive person and I enjoy listening to songs by Gulzar and Javed,” he said.

He highlighted the richness of Indian cinema, stating that not only Bollywood but also Marathi, Punjabi, South Indian, and Bengali industries have many excellent lyricists. However, he noted that Rabindranath Tagore cannot be compared to anyone else, nor will he compare Gulzar or Javed to others.

Sengupta made it clear that the power to set trends lies in the hands of the audience. Creators will produce what they know, but if people stop watching and listening, it will eventually fade away.

Excited about his upcoming film ‘Bhoot Bangla,’ Sengupta mentioned that it features Akshay Kumar, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, and Vamika Gabbi in key roles. The film will also showcase veteran actor Asrani, who passed away at the age of 84 on October 20, 2025.
