
Mumbai, June 5: Celebrated singer Sonu Nigam, known for his numerous hit songs over a career spanning more than three decades, reflected on his early days in the music industry on Friday. He shared memories from the recording of the song “Mohabbat Ki Keemat Ada Hum Karenge” from the 1993 film ‘Bewafa Sanam’.
Sonu posted a series of photos from the recording session at the iconic Filmistan Studio in Goregaon, Mumbai, captioning it, “My beginning. Mohabbat Ki Keemat Ada Hum Karenge – Bewafa Sanam | September, 1993 Filmistan Studio Goregaon.”
Starting his career in the early 1990s, Sonu’s first song for a film was “O Aasmaanwale” from the movie ‘Aaja Meri Jaan’ in 1993. He gained recognition with songs from the television serial ‘Talash’, including “Hum To Chaila Ban Gaye” and later with hits like “Achha Sila Diya”, “Sandeshe Aate Hain”, and “Ye Dil Deewana”.
His album ‘Deewana’, released in 1999, marked a new height of popularity for him. Over his extensive career, Sonu has recorded over 6,000 songs in more than 32 languages. He has released several non-film albums and has also acted in a few Hindi films. In 2022, he was honored with the Padma Shri award and is often referred to as ‘Modern Rafi’ in homage to his musical idol, Mohammad Rafi.
Sonu made his acting debut as an adult in the fantasy action thriller ‘Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani’, directed by Rajkumar Kohli in 2002. The film featured a star-studded cast including Armaan Kohli, Manisha Koirala, Sunny Deol, Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Aftab Shivdasani, Aditya Pancholi, Rambha, and Sharad Kapoor.
‘Bewafa Sanam’ is a musical thriller directed by Gulshan Kumar, featuring his younger brother Krishna Kumar, Shilpa Shirodkar, Aruna Irani, Bina Banerjee, Shakti Kapoor, and Kiran Kumar. The film tells the story of a famous cricketer named Sundar, who is imprisoned on false charges. While in jail, he learns that his fiancée Sheetal is set to marry someone else, leading him to decide to take revenge.
