Kolkata, April 4: Abhishek Banerjee, the National General Secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress, has launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the upcoming Bengal Assembly elections. In a post on the social media platform X, Banerjee questioned the BJP’s ‘double engine’ slogan, labeling it a threat to the democratic system.
He stated that the BJP’s true ‘double engine’ operates in two distinct ways. The first engine is based on the misuse of democratic institutions. According to Banerjee, the Election Commission is weaponized to remove genuine voters from the electoral rolls, transfer honest officials, and undermine the administrative structure.
He also alleged that outsiders are illegally included in electoral lists to manipulate the elections.
Banerjee pointed out that the BJP’s second engine focuses on leveraging various local parties and organizations for its benefit. He mentioned AIMIM, the Indian Secular Front, and the Aam Janata Unnayan Party, accusing them of spreading communal tensions, creating unrest, and attempting to polarize votes, ultimately benefiting the BJP politically.
The Trinamool leader claimed that the people of West Bengal have understood this strategy and will respond in the elections. He cited the support the party is receiving in areas like Jaipur, Sonamukhi, Indas, and Khanakul, asserting that the victories of their candidates Arjun Mahato, Dr. Kallol Saha, Shyamali Roy Bagdi, and Palash Kumar Roy are almost certain.
Banerjee emphasized that the state’s populace desires a government based on the principles of ‘Maa-Mati-Manush’ that works for the people’s interests. He accused the BJP of wanting to establish a government that is distant from the public, closer to corporate interests, and disconnected from democratic values. He expressed confidence that the people of Bengal will once again favor the Trinamool Congress, ensuring stable and people-oriented governance in the state.
The West Bengal Assembly elections will be conducted in two phases, with voting for 152 seats taking place on April 23 and for 142 seats on April 29. The results will be announced on May 4.
