
Kolkata, April 3: Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has filed his nomination for the West Bengal Assembly elections. In the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, he disclosed details of his assets, revealing that he has approximately ₹95,000 in cash and vehicles worth ₹22 lakh.
Chowdhury stated in his affidavit that he possesses ₹94,500 in cash, while his wife has ₹7,25,000 in cash. His various bank accounts hold ₹21,816.48 and ₹2,026.09, in addition to ₹6,18,769.73 deposited in the Parliament House branch in Delhi. This totals around ₹6.42 lakh in his bank accounts.
He also reported owning vehicles valued at ₹22 lakh and jewelry worth over ₹27 lakh, bringing his total assets to over ₹48 crore, while his wife holds ₹6 crore in real estate.
Chowdhury faces five FIRs, with four registered at the Berhampore police station and one at the Harishchandrapur police station. The cases are currently under trial in court, including hearings in the learned Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Murshidabad and the First Additional District and Sessions Court in Murshidabad and Chanchal, Malda district.
The charges against him include using objectionable language, making criminal threats, holding illegal assemblies, obstructing public pathways, preventing public servants from performing their duties, inciting riots, and making statements that promote hostility between different groups.
It is noteworthy that Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has previously served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He faced defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and has been fielded by Congress for the Baharampur Assembly seat in the 2026 West Bengal elections.
