New Delhi: Rising concerns over the safety and future of Indian medical students studying in Iran have prompted the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) to write to the Indian Embassy in Tehran.
In its letter, AIMSA requested the embassy to coordinate with Iranian authorities and universities to ensure the return of passports to the students. Many Indian students enrolled at various Iranian universities wish to return to India amid the current situation but are unable to do so because their passports are held by the institutions.

The association highlighted that despite prior advisories, universities have not released the passports, intensifying the difficulties faced by students and their families. Without passports, students cannot arrange travel, causing significant distress.
AIMSA further urged the Indian Embassy to intervene promptly to facilitate the return of passports, enabling students who want to leave Iran to return safely. Additionally, the association appealed for the embassy to consider evacuation plans should the situation worsen, prioritising the safety of Indian nationals, especially students.

The organisation expressed confidence that the Indian Embassy will provide all possible assistance to protect the interests of Indian students abroad. AIMSA also committed to full cooperation and support to address this serious concern affecting hundreds of Indian students and their families in Iran.
