Attempted Shooting at Farooq Abdullah in Jammu

Jammu, March 12: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shared updates regarding his father, Farooq Abdullah‘s health, expressing gratitude for the well-wishes received from the public.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Omar Abdullah noted that his father is very happy with all the support, good wishes, and prayers he has received. He mentioned that Farooq Abdullah is deeply appreciative of the numerous tweets, posts, and messages but is unable to respond to each one personally. Omar stated that his father requested him to share this message on his behalf, and he, along with his family, is thankful to everyone.

The incident comes in the wake of an attempted shooting at Farooq Abdullah during a private event in Jammu, which has raised concerns among National Conference leaders. On Wednesday evening, a man attempted to attack Farooq Abdullah while he was attending an event, where Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary was also present. The suspect is currently in police custody.

Earlier, Omar Abdullah had revealed that the attempted assassination was thwarted due to the swift action of the close protection team provided under his father’s Z+ security cover. He wrote on X, “God is merciful. My father narrowly escaped. The details are not clear yet, but what we know is that a man with a loaded pistol managed to fire at point-blank range. It was only the close protection team that prevented the bullet from hitting him and ensured that the assassination attempt failed.”

Omar Abdullah also expressed concerns over the security breach, questioning how the suspect managed to get so close to a leader with such high-level security. He added, “At this time, there are more questions than answers, including how someone could get so close to a former Chief Minister with Z+ NSG security.”
