Raipur, March 26: Senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel has described the upcoming assembly elections in Assam, scheduled for April 9, as a fight against the ‘fake Congress’ led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Speaking to reporters, Baghel criticized Sarma’s government, stating that corruption is at its peak under his leadership and that the public will break his arrogance on election day. He further mentioned that chaos is rampant within the BJP as well.
Baghel reiterated his earlier claims that the ‘real Congress’ is led by state president Gaurav Gogoi, while the ‘fake Congress’ is under Sarma’s leadership. The former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh emphasized that BJP leaders have realized they are not contesting a genuine election, making the political battle in Assam one between the ‘real Congress’ and the ‘fake Congress.’
He expressed disappointment over recent comments made by Chief Minister Sarma regarding the Congress party, stating that Sarma’s mind seems to be unhinged and that he will hold a separate press conference in Assam to address this.
On Wednesday, during a press conference in Nagaon, Sarma claimed that while Congress might form governments in Pakistan and Bangladesh, it will never do so in Assam. He also accused Congress leaders of engaging in irresponsible politics. Notably, Sarma has been a prominent Congress leader in Assam, serving as a minister in Congress governments from 2001 to 2015 before joining the BJP in August 2015 and subsequently becoming Chief Minister.
