
New Delhi: India is commemorating its 77th Republic Day with fervour across the nation and among Indian communities worldwide. Prominent figures from Indian cricket, both past and present, have conveyed their heartfelt greetings to the country on this special occasion.
Suryakumar Yadav, captain of the Indian T20 cricket team, took to X to share his wishes, stating, “77 years of a nation governed by its Constitution. Happy Republic Day.”
Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir also extended his greetings on X, writing, “We have one Constitution. Our identity too should be one – Indian. Wishing everyone a Happy Republic Day.”
Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan expressed his respect for the nation’s Constitution and heroes, tweeting, “Happy Republic Day. Let us honour our Constitution and the sacrifices of our heroes. Proud to be Indian. Jai Hind.”
Ex-batsman VVS Laxman shared a message emphasising unity above religion, “A country progresses when its people place religion above themselves. Wishing you all a very Happy Republic Day. Jai Hind.”
Suresh Raina shared pictures on X with a simple message, “Happy Republic Day. Jai Hind. Jai Bharat.”
Former opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan also sent his best wishes, tweeting, “From the heart, Hindustani. Happy Republic Day.”
Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant joined in, posting, “Happy Republic Day.”
On the eve of the 77th Republic Day, the central government announced Padma awards recognising outstanding contributions in various fields. Rohit Sharma, who led the Indian cricket team to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025, was honoured with the Padma Shri award.
Harmanpreet Kaur, captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, was also awarded the Padma Shri. Under her leadership, the Indian women’s team secured their first-ever ODI World Cup title by defeating South Africa on 2 November 2025.
Former tennis player Vijay Amritraj was bestowed with the Padma Bhushan. Other recipients of the Padma Shri include Baldev Singh, Bhagwandas Raikar, Praveen Kumar, Savita Punia, and posthumously, Vladimir Mestvirishvili.
These recognitions highlight the significant achievements of Indian sportspersons and their contribution to the nation’s pride on this Republic Day.
