Dehradun Bus Plunges into Gorge, Three Dead and Several Injured

Dehradun: A bus operated by Himachal Road Transport Corporation carrying over 30 passengers plunged into a deep gorge near the Quanu area in Vikasnagar, Dehradun, resulting in the deaths of at least three people and injuring several others.

The accident occurred around 10 am near Sudoi Khadd, when the bus, travelling from Chaupal-Nerwa to Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh, reportedly lost control while giving way to a truck. The edge of the road gave way, causing the bus to overturn multiple times before falling into the gorge.

The bus had started its journey from Chaupal depot at approximately 6:30 am and was en route via the Meenas-Quanu-Haripur route towards Paonta Sahib. At the time of the mishap, the vehicle was carrying more than 30 passengers.

Rescue operations were immediately launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police from Kalsi police station reached the site promptly. Several injured passengers have been shifted to hospitals, with many in critical condition.

Local residents rushed to the scene to assist with initial relief efforts. Authorities have confirmed that three passengers died on the spot, while over fifteen others sustained serious injuries.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and stated that he is closely monitoring the situation. On his social media platform ‘X’, he said, “We have received the heartbreaking news of the bus accident involving Himachal Transport Corporation on the Quanu-Meenas motor road near Kalsi area. I immediately contacted the District Magistrate and issued necessary instructions.”

He also assured that the district administration and police have initiated prompt rescue and relief work. All nearby medical centres have been put on high alert, and arrangements are in place to airlift critically injured patients to advanced medical facilities if required. The Chief Minister prayed for the speedy recovery of all affected passengers.

The rescue and relief operations are ongoing, with authorities awaiting further updates.
