Delhi Assembly Launches AI-Powered Chatbot for Legislators

New Delhi, March 20: The Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, inaugurated a special AI-powered chatbot named ‘Vidhan Saathi’ for the assembly members on Thursday, making Delhi the first assembly in the country to introduce such a technology-enabled facility.

Addressing the legislators, Gupta emphasized that assembly members often face complex laws and policy issues within limited timeframes. ‘Vidhan Saathi’ is designed as a dedicated legislative research and support tool aimed at providing clarity, context, and reliable information, ensuring that every discussion in the house is informative, thoughtful, and objective.

He announced that this system will be implemented from the upcoming budget session, which begins on March 23. Gupta stated that this initiative signifies a decisive shift towards a data-driven, technology-enabled legislative process.

The chatbot is designed to assist members with data-driven analysis and information regarding bills, acts, and policy issues. Legislators can also upload screenshots of bills or reports to receive immediate analysis and relevant insights, facilitating more informed and effective participation in legislative discussions.

Gupta noted that the primary goal is not just to provide access to documents but to help members analyze complex issues and present well-considered, evidence-based arguments in the house.

Designed for ease of use within the assembly, ‘Vidhan Saathi’ is accessible through a dedicated QR code and a direct digital link available at each member’s desk, eliminating the need for downloads or additional steps.

He mentioned that this facility is exclusively available to the 70 members of the assembly, ensuring a secure and institution-specific legislative support framework. ‘Vidhan Saathi’ is specifically tailored for the functioning of the Delhi Assembly, based on rules, previous debates, committee reports, and legislative records, ensuring that the provided information is relevant and institutionally sound.
