Siliguri, West Bengal: A sudden fire broke out at the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) office located on Hill Cart Road in Mallaguri, Siliguri district, destroying important documents related to the Special Intensive Review (SIR).
The incident occurred early Thursday morning when thick black smoke was spotted coming from one of the office rooms. Security guards and local residents promptly tried to douse the flames before informing the Pradhan Nagar police station and the fire brigade. Two fire engines rushed to the scene and managed to control the fire within a short time.
Despite the quick response, two rooms in the SDO office were completely gutted, along with several computers and crucial government papers. Fire brigade sources confirmed that the documents stored in these rooms were engulfed in the flames.
Officials are still assessing the full extent of the damage. Investigations are underway by both the police and fire department to determine the cause of the fire.
Following the incident, SDO Vikas Ruhela, District Magistrate Manish Mishra, and Superintendent of Police Praveen Prakash visited the site to review the situation. Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb also inquired about the event.
SDO Ruhela stated that it is too early to comment on the details of the fire. Station Officer of the Siliguri fire Station, Dharmendra Krishna Roy, noted that the heavy smoke delayed their entry but the blaze was soon brought under control. He added that further investigation will clarify the reasons and extent of the damage.
