
Tashkent, May 8: Indian young boxers have delivered an impressive performance at the Asian Under-17 Boxing Championship, securing five medals. The matches are being held in Tashkent, where Indian boxers achieved strong victories in the quarter-finals to advance to the semi-finals.
In the 50 kg category, Yash Yadav defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Kubanichbek Bolushov with a score of 4-1. In the 54 kg category, Nivesh Pal recorded a dominant 5-0 victory against Japan’s Shingen Kanai, securing his place in the semi-finals. Naman Kumar also excelled in the 70 kg category, beating Tajikistan’s Ruzibek Miravotov 5-0. Similarly, in the 75 kg category, Lakshya Fogat triumphed over Chinese Taipei’s Cheng-En Li with a 5-0 win to reach the final four.
However, in the 60 kg category, Karung Albertson faced a setback, losing 0-5 to Kazakhstan’s Amir Mukhit. Ranveer was also defeated by Kazakhstan’s Islam Suleimanogly in the 66 kg category. Additionally, Siddhant’s journey in the 80+ kg category ended with a loss against Kazakhstan’s Sabirjan Sazim. Despite these losses, five Indian boxers have reached the semi-finals, ensuring at least five medals for the country. The Indian team aims to enhance their performance in the semi-finals to secure a place in the finals.
The women’s category also saw remarkable achievements. In the ongoing Asian Under-15 and Under-17 Boxing Championship 2026, Indian boxers have secured 12 medals so far. In the 46 kg category, Rakhi defeated her opponent from Chinese Taipei 5-0. In the 48 kg category, Khushi made a strong start by winning against a Korean boxer in the first round via RSC.
In the 52 kg category, Mamta triumphed over a Jordanian boxer in the second round by RSC. Lakshmi won in the 54 kg category against Mongolia in the third round via RSC. Navya secured a 5-0 victory against her Chinese rival in the 57 kg category, while Ishika won against a Mongolian boxer in the 60 kg category in the second round via RSC.
