India Wins U-19 World Cup, ICC President Praises Team

New Delhi, February 6: The International Cricket Council (ICC) President Jay Shah congratulated the Indian Team for winning the Under-19 World Cup 2026, calling them “deserving” champions.

Shah stated, “Congratulations to India for winning the sixth title of the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup! They truly deserve this victory, but England can also take pride in their impressive performance leading up to the finals. Congratulations to Zimbabwe Cricket and Namibia Cricket for hosting a fantastic tournament that showcased the future stars of our sport.”

In the match held at Harare Sports Club, India won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 411 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Vaibhav Suryavanshi was the standout performer, scoring 175 runs off 80 balls, including 15 fours and 15 sixes. Captain Ayush Mhatre contributed with a quick 53 runs off 51 balls, hitting 2 sixes and 7 fours, while Abhijnaan Kundu added 40 runs to the total.

For England, James Minto took the most wickets, claiming 3, while Sebastian Morgan and Alex Green both took 2 wickets each. Manny Lumsden also contributed with 1 wicket.

In response, England was bowled out for just 311 runs in 40.2 overs. Caleb Faulkner was the top scorer for England, making 115 runs off 67 balls, with 7 sixes and 9 fours. Ben Dockins and Ben Meays contributed 66 and 45 runs, respectively.

For India, RS Ambreesh was the leading wicket-taker with 3 wickets, while Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chauhan each took 2 wickets. Ayush Mhatre and Khilan Patel also chipped in with 1 wicket each.
