New Delhi, April 27: In an exhilarating match of IPL 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) triumphed over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a nail-biting super over on Sunday. Rinku Singh emerged as the star of the match, scoring an impressive 83 runs off 51 balls.
Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan lauded Singh’s batting, highlighting how his four sixes in the final over turned the tide of the game. Speaking on ‘JioHostar’, Pathan remarked, “Rinku Singh’s awareness in that last over was remarkable. He anticipated the bowler’s plans, adjusted his position, and collected runs on both sides of the wicket. Those four sixes changed the entire course of the match. Without those 26 runs, KKR wouldn’t have won.”
Pathan emphasized that Rinku batted with responsibility, noting, “What was even more special was his sense of responsibility. There was a moment when he decided to keep the strike. He also showed confidence in finishing the over. Rinku performed well under pressure. His ability to understand the situation and control the match at crucial moments makes him special.”
When Rinku came to bat, KKR was struggling at 31 for 4. However, he steadied the innings and remained at one end until the end. In the final over, he hit four consecutive sixes off LSG bowler Digvijay Rathi, helping KKR post a total of 155 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. LSG matched this score, leading to a tie.
In the super over, Sunil Narine dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram in just three balls. Rinku Singh then hit a boundary on the first ball of the super over, securing KKR’s second consecutive victory of the season. He was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance.
