Jalore : Jalore We had tears in our eyes. A night before the wedding, nephew Tulsaram (28) and niece Pooja (25) died in an accident. It was not possible to postpone the marriage. In such a situation, the rounds were conducted in a sombre atmosphere without any noise. After this we all reached the mortuary, where both our bodies were. The wedding rituals were performed in the morning and the last rites of the nephew and niece had to be performed in the evening. Kishore Gehlot, maternal uncle of brother and sister Tulsaram, son of Jagdish alias Prakash and Pooja, wife of Jitendra, who lost their lives in a road accident in Jalore, burst into tears while saying this. He talked on the phone. The wedding ceremony was in Bhainswada village of Ahor. The death of nephew and niece left the groom Bhavesh’s family devastated. Tulsaram was the only nephew of four maternal uncles. In the house of uncle Kishore Gehlot, where there was an atmosphere of happiness, there was a sad atmosphere in the name of marriage without any rituals. All the rituals were performed within some time. The Juhari and Ashirwad ceremony scheduled for Friday was also postponed.
Marriage remained a formality, could not be postponed
Tulsaram’s maternal uncle Kishore Gehlot told – Tulsaram was the only nephew of four maternal uncles (Harish Gehlot, Futarmal Gehlot, Kishore Gehlot, Mahendra Gehlot). After the death of Tulsaram and niece Pooja, the marriage of nephew Bhavesh son Harish Gehlot remained only a formality. The accident had happened the night before the wedding, so the wedding could not be postponed. I got the information about the accident only on the night of 27th November. Tulsaram died on the spot, while Pooja was referred to Ahmedabad (Gujarat). He also died on the way. After receiving the information about his death, senior members of the society and some family members held a meeting and decided that Tulsaram’s parents and relatives should not be informed about his death. So that the rituals of the marriage ceremony can be completed. We were told to make the rounds first. After this the last rites will be performed. Tulsaram’s parents and relatives were not informed about the death until the next day.
Told the bride’s family not to welcome the wedding procession
Kishore Gehlot says- We had to bring the bride home after conducting rounds as soon as possible, so that after this the last rites could be performed. Bhavesh’s wedding procession left at 6 am on 28th November. Only 15 people went to the wedding procession. The procession from Bhainswara in Ahor reached Velaram Sundesha’s place in Rupnagar, Jalore. We had refused any kind of welcome. The groom reached the stage straight away. There Bhavesh casually dated the bride. The bride was sent away after performing the Doriya ritual. On the same day, the ceremony of changing the bride’s courtyard was also performed. Within a few hours, without any ceremony, without any songs or music, we brought the bride to Bhainswara. On Friday, there was the Juhari (giving away) ceremony of the bride and the wedding ceremony, which was postponed. After the wedding, the postmortem of the bodies of the nephew and niece was done at Jalore District Hospital on the afternoon of 28th November. When Tulsaram’s body reached his house in Shankar Vatika (Jalore) on Ratanpura Road in the evening, everyone’s patience broke. There was shouting. The people of the society soon performed the last rites.
A car hit a scooter in Leta village of Jalore.
To attend Bhavesh’s wedding ceremony (Bindauri ritual), on the night of 27th November, brother-sister Tulsaram and Pooja had left from Jalore to Bhainswara (Ahore) on a scooty. Pooja’s daughter Saroj (4) was also there. The scooter was hit by a car near Leta village. Both brother and sister had died in this and Saroj had minor injuries. After the death of Pooja, there was chaos in the street of Jaganath Mahadev Temple in Rajendra Nagar, Jalore, her in-laws’ house. The body reached home in the evening after postmortem on 28th November. Pooja was married to Jitendra Kumar, son of Chellaram Mali, resident of Rajendra Nagar, 7 years ago. She had come on her own time to attend her cousin’s wedding. From there, she left on a scooter with her brother along with daughter Saroj. Pooja had left her 6 year old son at her in-laws’ house. Tulsaram used to work at a fancy store in Surat, Gujarat. He had come to Jalore from Surat on Tuesday to attend the wedding of his cousin brother Bhavesh. Tulsaram was the only son of Jagdish Mali. Apart from Pooja, she has another sister.
