Khunti, Jharkhand: A tragic incident unfolded in Salgajola village under Maranghada police station area of Khunti district, where a seven-year-old boy was brutally murdered due to superstition related to witchcraft. The deceased child, Vishnu Munda, son of Lakshman Munda, a resident of the same village, was found dead near a nearby forest.
The police acted swiftly and arrested two accused on Sunday, who have been sent to judicial custody. According to police reports, about two to three months ago, the grandson of Raghu Munda from Bhimatoli in Landup village died under suspicious circumstances. Following this, Raghu Munda accused Lakshman Munda’s wife of being a witch responsible for his grandson’s death. He allegedly threatened Lakshman Munda that he would also kill his son.
On January 22, Vishnu suddenly went missing. When the search began, villagers found the body of a boy in a bloodied state near a bush in the forest close to the village. Vishnu’s father, Lakshman Munda, told the police that his son was playing in the field outside the house on the day of the incident.
During this time, Jagannath Munda, also known as Jagar Munda, reportedly lured Vishnu to the Lodolta forest and brutally murdered him. Police recovered a hoe believed to be the murder weapon, blood-stained soil from the crime scene, and the deceased boy’s slippers during the investigation.
Both Jagannath Munda and Raghu Munda have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. The accused have confessed their involvement during police interrogation. The investigation is ongoing.
