Ranchi, March 20: The police in Jharkhand‘s Latehar district have achieved a significant breakthrough against an interstate drug trafficking network. In a raid near the ‘Yummy Hotel’ on NH-39, authorities seized approximately 190 packets of illegal cannabis, estimated to be worth around two crore rupees in the international market. The traffickers had cleverly concealed this large stash of cannabis beneath layers of rice husk in the truck to evade police detection. However, the vigilance of the police led to the exposure of this cunning method of smuggling.
Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav informed that the police received a tip-off about a suspicious truck parked on NH-39. To verify the information, a special team was formed under the leadership of Block Officer Nandkumar Ram and SI Rahul Sinha.
Upon arrival at the scene, the police initially found the truck to be transporting ordinary agricultural goods. However, during a thorough search, they discovered the 190 packets of cannabis hidden beneath the layers of husk. The truck, registered in Uttar Pradesh (UP 26 T 7820), was immediately seized.
During the raid, no suspects or truck driver were present, leading authorities to believe that the traffickers fled upon learning of the police’s approach. The SP indicated that this case appears to be linked to a larger interstate drug syndicate. The police are now working to identify the owner and driver based on the truck’s registration number, while also investigating the origin and intended destination of the cannabis shipment.
