Mumbai, May 11: In the 54th match of IPL 2026, Mumbai Indians (MI) faced a disappointing defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), losing by two wickets. This loss has dashed MI’s hopes of making it to the playoffs. Captain Suryakumar Yadav stated that the team’s batsmen fell short by 10 to 15 runs, which ultimately cost them the match.
After the game, Suryakumar remarked, “I think we were 10-15 runs short. That’s how I felt. We lost wickets at crucial moments. However, the way Naman Dheer and Tilak Verma batted was impressive on this wicket. They showed great spirit. Watching Naman and Tilak, it felt like they were batting on a different pitch. We are proud of them.”
With this defeat, MI has now suffered their eighth loss of the season against RCB, effectively closing the door on their playoff chances. Reflecting on MI’s performance in the tournament, Suryakumar said, “I think we can only try to play this game because we enjoy it. As I said, whenever we get the chance, we will try to give our best and showcase our best game. However, we are not used to being in such a difficult position (at the bottom of the points table). It’s hard to accept, but there’s a lot to learn throughout the season. We can come back stronger next year.”
Suryakumar praised Corbin Bosch for his outstanding bowling performance, noting that he bowled excellently during the powerplay and in the final overs, and the team is proud of him. He also encouraged Raj Bawa, who struggled to defend 15 runs in the last over, stating that Raj gave his best effort.
Batting first, MI scored 166 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs, with Naman Dheer contributing 47 runs and Tilak Verma scoring 57. However, RCB successfully chased down the target of 167 runs on the last ball, thanks to Krunal Pandya’s remarkable innings of 73 runs off 46 balls, along with Jacob Bethel’s contribution of 27 runs.
