Mumbai, March 30: Senior Shiv Sena leader and MP Milind Deora has expressed serious concerns regarding the lack of mobile and Wi-Fi connectivity on the Aqua Line of the Mumbai Metro. In a letter addressed to Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director of the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, he has demanded immediate solutions to this issue.
In his letter, Deora mentioned that he is a regular commuter on this route and has observed a complete absence of mobile network in several sections of the metro. He emphasized that such problems in a city like Mumbai, which is the economic and commercial capital of the country, not only cause inconvenience but also hinder efficiency and productivity. Thousands of professionals, entrepreneurs, and service sector workers use this metro line daily, and being offline for extended periods during their commute affects their work, coordination, and access to essential services.
He stressed that seamless communication is crucial in the digital age. The lack of network during metro travel poses challenges not only for working individuals but can also create risks in emergency situations. Deora also noted that recent reports indicate that telecom operators are ready to address this issue, provided they receive the necessary approvals and coordination. He urged the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation to collaborate with all relevant parties to implement in-train and underground mobile connectivity as soon as possible.
Furthermore, he suggested that until mobile networks are fully established, high-speed Wi-Fi should be made available at metro stations and tunnels to ensure connectivity for passengers. In closing his letter, Deora remarked that Mumbai has always been a leader in infrastructure and innovation. Improving digital connectivity on the Aqua Line would not only enhance the passenger experience but also strengthen the city’s identity.
The MP has appealed for this issue to be prioritized and expressed hope that the relevant authorities will take concrete steps in this direction soon.
