Patna, March 15: The political atmosphere in Bihar is heating up as the voting for five Rajya Sabha seats is set to take place on March 16. Both alliances are engaged in intense discussions, with the NDA holding continuous meetings among its legislators and leaders.
Senior JD(U) leader and Bihar minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary claimed on Sunday that the victory of all five NDA candidates is assured. Speaking to the media, Chaudhary stated, “There is no doubt about the NDA’s position. Leaders from all constituent parties are confident that we will win all seats. Until the elections, the voters (legislators) are interacting with each other. Everyone will remain in Patna until the elections, and this will not affect the voting dynamics.”
He further mentioned that opposition leaders have realized that they will not succeed in this election. “The opposition is in a state of panic. Our legislators are moving around the city while some from other parties are under house arrest. This indicates where the victory lies and who is facing defeat,” he added.
Chaudhary asserted that the NDA has no shortage of votes. Regarding reports of AIMIM legislators voting for the RJD candidate, he clarified that there is a difference between meeting and voting. “There are no statements regarding voting. Everyone continues to meet,” he said.
This election is crucial as five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar are currently vacant. The NDA has fielded five candidates, while the RJD has put forward one. In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, a candidate needs the support of 41 legislators to win. Currently, the NDA has a total of 202 legislators.
Based on this, the NDA is expected to easily secure four seats. Even after winning four seats, they will still have some votes left, but to win the fifth seat, they will require support from other legislators. The opposition, led by the RJD, has a total of 35 legislators and will need additional support to secure a seat. This has intensified discussions around political strategies and calculations for this election.
