New Facility Center Launched in Dahisar to Enhance Living Conditions

Mumbai, June 8: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated a new ‘Facility Center’ in the Dahisar area of Mumbai. This center aims to provide better sanitation and basic amenities to people living in slums. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of improving the quality of life for every citizen, making it more convenient and dignified.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Piyush Goyal emphasized that Prime Minister Modi envisions better facilities for every citizen, aiming to ease their lives and ensure their dignity within society. He stated that toilets are not merely facilities but are closely linked to people’s dignity and respect. With this perspective, sanitation has been made a crucial part of the country’s development journey.

Goyal noted that people living in slums do not choose to reside there voluntarily but are compelled by circumstances and hardships. He expressed his desire for every slum dweller to have a permanent and dignified home through slum redevelopment schemes. However, until this goal is fully achieved, it is essential to provide better basic facilities to these individuals.

He mentioned that a significant campaign has been launched in North Mumbai in this direction. In collaboration with Hindustan Unilever, HSBC, JSW, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), such facility centers are being developed in various parts of the city. The center inaugurated in Dahisar is the first in North Mumbai and the 25th facility center under this initiative nationwide.

Goyal revealed plans to establish 100 more facility centers over the next three years, which will be operated with the participation of local women, providing them with employment and opportunities for self-reliance.

These facility centers will feature modern toilets, laundry services, and clean drinking water available at just one rupee per liter. The initiative will also promote water conservation through recycling and the use of modern technology.

The Union Minister expressed confidence that this initiative will bring about significant positive changes in the lives of millions living in slums and will be a crucial step towards making Mumbai a cleaner, more convenient, and inclusive city.
