Notorious Criminal Arrested After Police Encounter in Bareilly

Bareilly, June 1: In a significant police operation, a criminal accused of attempted murder was arrested following an encounter in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The suspect was shot in both legs during a police response and subsequently fell to the ground. He was immediately admitted to a hospital for treatment.

City Police Officer Ashutosh Shivam reported that on the morning of May 31, a complaint was filed at the Prem Nagar police station. The complainant alleged that Bilal Ghosi assaulted their family and attacked them with a knife, resulting in injuries. Following the complaint, two police teams were dispatched to apprehend Ghosi.

The police teams were actively pursuing Ghosi when they received a tip-off. In the early hours of June 1, an attempt was made to corner him near the old railway line in Janakpuri. Ghosi opened fire while attempting to flee, prompting the police to return fire, injuring him in both legs. He was quickly apprehended, and a firearm, cartridges, and the knife used in the incident were recovered from him.

The officer noted that Ghosi has a history of criminal activities, including robbery and theft. Authorities plan to open a history sheet against him and take action under the Gangsters Act.

After the encounter, Ghosi was seen writhing in pain and reportedly pleaded with police officers, saying he would not return to Bareilly again. A video of his statement has since gone viral.

Ghosi first came into the spotlight about six years ago when he allegedly lured a girl from another community, created a fake Aadhaar card, and claimed to have married her. His failure to be arrested led to protests by Hindu organizations outside the Kila police station, resulting in clashes with the police.
