
Perth, January 7: Melbourne Renegades secured a thrilling four-wicket victory against Perth Scorchers in the 26th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 held at Perth Stadium.
After losing the toss, Perth Scorchers were put into bat and managed to post a total of 127 runs in 19.2 overs. The team lost Finn Allen early at 16 runs, with Allen contributing 8 runs. Mitchell Marsh steadied the innings with a quick 27 runs off 25 balls.
Aaron Hardie played a patient knock of 44 runs from 40 balls, including one six and four fours, holding the middle order together. Captain Ashton Turner added 12 runs to the total.
From the Renegades’ bowling side, Gurinder Sandhu was the standout performer, claiming four wickets. Hasan Khan chipped in with two wickets, while Jason Behrendorff and Will Sutherland took one wicket each.
In response, Melbourne Renegades chased down the target dramatically on the last ball with a six. Openers Josh Brown and Tim Seifert gave a brisk start, scoring 26 runs in the first three overs. Brown was dismissed for 22 runs.
Mohammad Rizwan then joined Seifert, and the pair added 28 runs for the second wicket before Seifert was out for 11 runs.
Oliver Peat played a match-winning unbeaten innings of 42 runs off 30 balls with one six and four fours. Captain Will Sutherland contributed 15 runs to help seal the victory. On the Scorchers’ side, Joel Paris, Jhye Richardson, David Payne, Cooper Connolly, and Ashton Turner each took a wicket.
With this win, Melbourne Renegades have won 3 of their 6 matches, placing them sixth on the points table. Perth Scorchers, with 4 wins from 7 matches, hold the second position.
Perth Scorchers will next face Adelaide Strikers on January 11, while Melbourne Renegades will play against Melbourne Stars on January 10.
