Latur, January 25: On the eve of Republic Day, the central government announced the Padma Awards for 2026. Among the awardees is Shrirang Devba Lad, affectionately known as ‘Dada Lad’, who has been honoured with the Padma Shri for his significant contributions to agriculture.
Dada Lad is recognised for introducing innovative methods in cotton farming that have led to increased yields and economic benefits for farmers. His modifications in cotton cultivation have notably enhanced production, positively impacting the farming community.
TrendingExpressing his happiness to news agencies, Dada Lad said, “I believe the government has appreciated those who have worked for society. I am more delighted that through this honour, agricultural techniques will reach more people and benefit farmers.”
He humbly refrained from speaking extensively about himself, stating that he comes from a small village and a farmer’s family. His deep connection with farmers grew as he took responsibility for the farmers’ union. He shared that the joy and sorrow of farmers are intertwined with the success or failure of their crops.
TrendingRegarding his achievements, Dada Lad revealed that earlier the cotton yield was about 6 quintals per acre, which has now increased to 25 quintals. Having a lifelong interest in farming, he noted the distress caused by poor harvests, which sometimes leads to farmer suicides, and emphasised that such outcomes must be prevented.
He dedicated the award not to himself but to the entire farming community.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, Dada Lad remarked that since Modi became Prime Minister, deserving individuals have been recognised for their work, inspiring farmers and others alike. He appreciated the efforts to uplift tribal and backward communities, creating hope for their progress. He added that the government’s recognition of capable individuals is having a positive impact on society.
