PM Modi to Address Rally in Kolkata Ahead of Bengal Elections

Kolkata, March 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a significant political rally at the historic Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on Saturday, marking the conclusion of the BJP’s statewide Parivartan Yatra ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.

The BJP’s West Bengal unit anticipates a large turnout, with supporters arriving from across the state to hear the Prime Minister’s speech. Preparations are in full swing at the venue, with multiple stages being set up for the event.

Authorities have deployed thousands of police personnel in various parts of the city to manage security and control the expected crowd, along with implementing traffic restrictions.

During his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for infrastructure and connectivity projects worth approximately ₹18,680 crores, which include national highway projects spanning over 420 kilometers at a cost of around ₹16,990 crores. These initiatives aim to enhance road safety, reduce traffic congestion, decrease travel time, and promote regional connectivity and economic development in Eastern India.

The most significant project is the 231-kilometer Kharagpur-Morgaram Economic Corridor, which will be developed as a four-lane highway. This corridor is expected to reduce the distance between Kharagpur and Siliguri by about 120 kilometers, cutting travel time by nearly eight hours.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for new bridges over the Dubrajpur bypass and the Kangshabati and Silabati rivers on NH-14, further strengthening highway connectivity in the region.

According to BJP West Bengal Vice President Raju Banerjee, organizational preparations for the rally are progressing rapidly, although he declined to specify the exact number of stages being constructed at the venue, citing security protocols.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi is scheduled to participate in events in Silchar, Assam, before heading to Kolkata for the rally and other engagements.
