New Delhi: In a significant move to curb street crimes and the illegal liquor supply in Delhi NCR, the Crime Branch team led by Inspector Akshay Gehlot, WR-II, apprehended Raju Kashyap, aged 28, a resident of Uttam Nagar, New Delhi.
Raju Kashyap was already a declared offender under FIR number 613/2021 at Vikaspuri police station, charged under sections 33, 38, and 58 of the Delhi Excise Act. Additionally, he had a non-bailable warrant issued against him under FIR number 474/2019 at Kapashera police station for offences under sections 279, 337 IPC and the Delhi Excise Act.
The WR-II team received confidential information that Kashyap would be visiting Uttam Nagar to meet an associate for illegal liquor supply. Under the supervision of Rajpal Dubas, ACP/WR-II, and DCP Harsh Indora (IPS), Inspector Akshay Gehlot led a team including Head Constable Sushil, Sandeep, and Sanjeet to set a trap at DDA Park, Hastal in Uttam Nagar. When Kashyap arrived and attempted to flee, the team successfully apprehended him.
During police interrogation, Kashyap revealed he hails from village Gatikheda in Muradabad district, Uttar Pradesh. He studied only up to class five at a government school. In 2012, he moved with his family to Shiv Vihar, Uttam Nagar. His family comprises his mother and three brothers; his father passed away due to a heart attack in 2018. Currently, his mother and two brothers live on rent in Mangolpuri, while he stays alone on rent in Shiv Vihar.
Due to financial difficulties, Kashyap became addicted to drugs in 2017. To support his habit, he started supplying illegal liquor. Police had arrested him earlier and registered FIR number 613/2021. After getting bail, he resumed his illegal activities and frequently changed locations to evade court proceedings, which led to him being declared a fugitive by the court.
This arrest marks a crucial step in the ongoing efforts by Delhi Police to tackle illegal liquor supply and related crimes in the region.
