Jaunpur, January 12. A shootout occurred between the police and criminals in the Shahganj area of Jaunpur. The encounter took place during a police check on the Purvanchal Expressway, near Chiriya Mor. The police successfully apprehended two suspects, while one managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
According to CO Ajit Singh Chauhan, the police and Special Operations Group (SOG) received information about a suspicious pickup van approaching Chiriya Mor, prompting a check on the expressway. When the police attempted to stop the van, it sped away and collided with a police vehicle.
Due to a technical malfunction, the van could not proceed further, and the occupants opened fire on the police. In response, the police fired back, injuring one of the criminals, identified as Istekhar (35), a resident of Aharoula in Azamgarh. He was promptly taken to a hospital for treatment.
During the same encounter, police arrested another suspect, Jaisingh (28), from Aharoula, Azamgarh, who was found in possession of a weapon. Another accomplice, Vishal Yadav, son of Anil Yadav, a resident of Ghamirpur in Azamgarh, escaped the scene using the cover of darkness. The police are currently searching for him.
Upon searching the pickup van, the police discovered four live and two dead cattle. The live cattle were safely transported to a gaushala.
The police have registered cases against the arrested criminals under relevant sections at the Shahganj police station and initiated further legal action. The injured criminal is being treated in the hospital, and other legal procedures are underway.
