Protests Erupt Over Suspicious Death of Bihar NEET Student

New Delhi, February 8: The suspicious death of a NEET student from Bihar has sparked a wave of demands for accountability and justice. In response, students and social activists organized a large protest at Jantar Mantar in the capital on Sunday.

This incident has not only shaken the student community but has also raised serious questions regarding student safety, administrative negligence, and institutional responsibility.

Protesters, holding placards and chanting slogans, called for a swift, fair, and transparent investigation into the matter. They urged for strict action against those responsible, highlighting that such incidents reveal deep flaws within the education system.

Demonstrators expressed that the increasing pressure, lack of mental support, and administrative carelessness leave students preparing for competitive exams feeling unsafe.

The protest saw participation from members of civil society, various student organizations, and representatives from political parties. Participants noted that similar incidents involving students preparing for NEET, IIT, and other competitive exams are becoming alarmingly frequent, leading to rising anger in society. They warned that if concrete steps are not taken soon, the situation could worsen.

In an interview, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Mahabal Mishra demanded decisive action from the government regarding this case. He emphasized that the government must promptly identify the culprits and ensure they face severe punishment, so no student has to endure such injustice in the future.

He stressed that delays in justice undermine public trust and embolden criminals.

One protester accused that the incident of rape and murder of the student in Patna is not only tragic and shameful but also concerning is the apparent attempt to suppress the case. The victim’s parents are forced to wander from place to place seeking justice, while police and administration seem to be downplaying the seriousness of the matter.

The protester criticized the NDA government for being so arrogant that accountability seems to have vanished. They pointed out that although a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed for the case, no concrete conclusions have emerged thus far. They demanded that a swift decision be made to deliver justice to the victim.

Educator Dhruv Kumar Rai also expressed deep concern over the matter, stating that any crime against a woman is a direct assault on her dignity, and what has transpired in this case is a source of shame for society as a whole. He and other educators demand that the perpetrators receive a punishment that sets a strong precedent and curbs such heinous crimes in the future.
