Punjab Police and BSF Bust Major Heroin Smuggling Network, Arrest Four

Chandigarh: Punjab Police continue their strong action against drug trafficking and organised crime in the state. Punjab Police Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday shared on the social media platform X that a significant breakthrough has been achieved against an international drug trafficking network.

According to the DGP, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Border Range, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), uncovered a large trans-border smuggling network. The operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 19.980 kilograms of heroin. Four accused involved in the case have been arrested, including a key suspect who was managing the drug supply chain.

Initial investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with handlers based in Pakistan and were coordinating the delivery of narcotics from across the border as well as their distribution across the region. The police have indicated that the network has international links. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation is ongoing, focusing on identifying the handlers across the border, tracing supply routes, and dismantling the entire drug network.

DGP Gaurav Yadav affirmed that Punjab Police remain fully committed to making the state drug-free and dismantling narcotics networks operating from across the border.

Earlier, Punjab Police had also taken strong action against organised crime. On 1 January, the DGP informed that Patiala Police busted an organised criminal gang and arrested nine accused involved in serious crimes such as murder, extortion, and targeted killings.

During that operation, nine pistols (.32 bore) and one PX5 pistol (.30 bore) were recovered. Preliminary investigations revealed that all accused were part of a well-organised crime network planning a major criminal act. An FIR has been filed and further investigations are underway.

Punjab Police have made it clear that strict action against drug traffickers, gangsters, and elements involved in organised crime will continue to maintain peace and security across the state.
