New Delhi, May 19: In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, while mobility has increased, physical activity has significantly decreased. As a result, many individuals are suffering from back, waist, and neck pain. A highly effective solution to this issue is Ardhachakrasana, or Half Wheel Pose.
This important yoga posture takes the shape of a half wheel during practice. The term ‘Ardha’ means half and ‘Chakra’ means wheel in Sanskrit. In this exercise, the body bends backward to form the shape of a half wheel.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Ardhachakrasana is an excellent backbending yoga asana that is highly effective in improving spinal flexibility and lung function.
This pose stimulates the pancreas, helping to regulate blood sugar levels. Additionally, the stretching of the chest and shoulders enhances lung capacity and provides relief from respiratory disorders.
Ardhachakrasana is a useful pose for reducing stress and improving body posture. It helps alleviate tension in the neck and shoulders by applying pressure to specific areas of the body.
The Ministry of AYUSH also outlines the correct method for performing this asana. Stand straight with a slight gap between your feet and place your hands on your waist. Then, take a deep breath and slowly bend backward. Ensure that your knees remain straight and your head tilts back. Hold this position for 10-15 seconds while breathing normally. After that, gradually return to the starting position while inhaling. This process should be repeated 3-5 times.
Individuals suffering from high blood pressure, dizziness, or heart conditions should not perform this asana without consulting a specialist. Pregnant women and those with severe slip discs or acute lower back pain should also avoid it.
