
Rajkot, June 2: The Bhaktinagar Railway Station in Rajkot, Gujarat, is undergoing a significant redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with an investment of approximately ₹26.80 crores. This initiative aims to equip the station with modern and world-class facilities, ensuring a safe, convenient, and comfortable travel experience for passengers.
The revamped station will feature several key upgrades focused on passenger convenience, including an air-conditioned waiting lounge, VIP room, modern toilets, improved parking facilities, and amenities for differently-abled individuals.
Additionally, the complete modernization of the station building and the introduction of a new foot overbridge will enhance safety and convenience for travelers. These improvements will particularly benefit women, senior citizens, and differently-abled passengers.
Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, stated, “Over a thousand railway stations across the country are being revitalized under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The government is continuously striving to provide better facilities for passengers. Based on the ongoing work, we can say that our railway stations will be prepared for the next 40 to 50 years.”
He mentioned that work is ongoing at 17 stations in the Rajkot division, with several nearing completion while others are still in progress. The redevelopment of Bhaktinagar Station is part of this initiative, with continuous expansion planned to enhance passenger amenities further.
Abhishek highlighted that the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is an ambitious initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aimed at transforming the country’s railway stations into world-class facilities. The scheme focuses not only on beautification but also on passenger amenities, cleanliness, safety, and digital services.
He added that the new look of Bhaktinagar Station is a significant step towards strengthening the railway infrastructure in Rajkot and across Gujarat. This redevelopment is expected to boost the local economy, as improved facilities will increase passenger traffic, providing a new impetus to surrounding businesses and tourism. Western Railway is consistently emphasizing passenger-centric development.
The Chief Public Relations Officer also mentioned that additional features such as modern lifts, escalators, adequate lighting, CCTV surveillance, and the use of green energy are likely to be included in the future.
