Jammu, January 8: An anti-terror operation resumed on Thursday in Kahog village of Billawar Tehsil in Kathua district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. During the initial exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces, one security personnel sustained minor injuries.
The operation involves Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), the Army, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Officials stated, “During a search operation by the SOG in Kahog village, terrorists hiding in the area fired at the SOG party. One security personnel was hit in the leg and was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that his condition is stable.”
According to officials, the firing continued for about an hour on Wednesday evening. It remains unclear whether any terrorists were injured in the initial gunfire.
Early this morning, the operation was restarted in the forested area of Dhanu Parol-Kamadha Nala. Additional forces have been deployed, and aerial surveillance is being used to locate terrorists concealed in the dense forests.
Bhim Sen Tuti, Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, said that despite the darkness, thick bushes, and difficult terrain, security forces are conducting the operation with full strength.
He added that CRPF teams have joined the joint operation to strengthen the cordon. The firing lasted for over an hour before subsiding. However, it is yet to be confirmed if any terrorists were wounded or killed during the encounter.
Joint forces including Police, Army, CRPF, and Border Security Force (BSF) have tightened security in and around Kathua district.
With the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, a multi-layered security grid involving BSF, Police, and Village Defence Guards (VDG) has been placed on high alert. Officials confirmed that the anti-terror operation in Billawar Tehsil is ongoing, and further updates are awaited.
