New Delhi, March 13: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attended a meeting of the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Board on Friday, where she launched a scathing attack on the previous government. She accused them of opening doors to fraud and corruption in the name of development, stating that it is time for the board to undergo a revival.
In a conversation with media personnel, CM Gupta noted that it was the first meeting of the board in years. Upon reviewing the documents, she expressed her astonishment at the extent of corruption associated with a government that boasted of its achievements. She highlighted that the development projects discussed since 2018 escalated from an initial budget of ₹65 crore to ₹148 crore, with demands for further funds still ongoing.
Gupta stated that the entire narrative of the board’s former chairperson and minister is documented in the board’s actions, emphasizing that corruption was rampant under the guise of development. She announced plans not only to rename the board but also to initiate necessary work to develop a beautiful area. “The entire board will now work diligently,” she asserted.
The Chief Minister also revealed that work is ongoing on 28 roads in Old Delhi at a cost of ₹160 crore. Plans are in place to underground electric wiring and improve toilet facilities, along with the construction of a town hall. “Old Delhi is the heart of the city, and development will be carried out with this heritage in mind,” she added.
Meanwhile, Delhi government minister Ashish Sood accused the previous administration of failing to undertake any work for Old Delhi. Under CM Gupta’s leadership, the board is committed to preserving and developing Delhi’s cultural heritage and old residential areas. Discussions on this initiative commenced today, with plans to collaborate with all agencies involved.
Regarding the shortage of gas cylinders, Sood mentioned that the central government has repeatedly stated there is no shortage of gas, and only strict measures are being taken to curb black marketing. He criticized individuals like Arvind Kejriwal, who, he claimed, capitalized on the pandemic to further their political agendas, leaving Delhi residents struggling for oxygen cylinders.
