Mumbai, February 9: The magic of Sunny Deol’s film ‘Border 2‘ continues to enchant audiences at the box office. Meanwhile, the makers have announced the release date for his much-anticipated film ‘Lahore 1947’, which is set to hit theaters on August 13.
This film marks the first collaboration between Sunny Deol, director Rajkumar Santoshi, and producer Aamir Khan. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, ‘Lahore 1947’ is based on the backdrop of the India-Pakistan partition of 1947, aiming to portray one of the most painful chapters in history in a unique manner.
Aamir Khan shared that this script was one of the late actor Dharmendra‘s favorites. He expressed his joy, stating, “This was one of Dharm Ji’s (Dharmendra) most beloved scripts. I am very happy that this film will be released in that spirit and receive his love.”
The upcoming film draws inspiration from Asghar Wajahat’s play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Nai’. The play focuses on the communal violence and fractured relationships caused by the partition, rather than the larger political narrative. The story revolves around a Hindu family forced to migrate from Lahore to India, who find a mansion left behind by a Muslim family, only to discover an elderly Muslim woman still residing there.
As the narrative unfolds during the tumultuous days of partition, it raises profound questions about identity, loss, and moral responsibility. Unlike typical patriotic tales, the film sheds light on the enduring scars of partition, empathy, and shared pain, presenting a poignant and serious period drama.
Sunny Deol stars in the lead role, supported by Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, and Karan Deol in significant roles. The music is composed by A.R. Rahman, with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar.
