
Mumbai, March 28: Vijaypat Singhania, the former Managing Director of the Raymond Group and a Padma Bhushan awardee, has passed away at the age of 87. His son, Gautam Singhania, confirmed the news through a social media post on Saturday. The last rites will be conducted tomorrow, March 29, 2026.
Gautam Singhania expressed his deep sorrow on the social media platform X, stating, “It is with profound grief and sorrow that we announce the passing of Padma Bhushan Dr. Vijaypat Kailashpat Singhania.” He described his father as a visionary leader, philanthropist, and inspiring personality whose legacy will continue to motivate future generations.
The funeral will take place on Sunday at the Chandanwadi crematorium in Mumbai. Family and friends are requested to gather at Haveli on L.D. Ruparrel Road at 1:30 PM.
Vijaypat Singhania will be remembered as a prominent industrialist who played a crucial role in establishing the Raymond Group as a strong and reputable company. He led the company for nearly two decades and served as chairman until the year 2000, after which he handed over responsibilities to his son, Gautam Singhania, along with a 37 percent stake in the company.
There were legal disputes between Vijaypat and Gautam Singhania a few years ago, but the matter was eventually resolved.
Born in 1938, Vijaypat Singhania was not only a successful businessman but also an aviator. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2006. Additionally, he received an honorary PhD from the London Institute of Technology and Research. The Indian Air Force appointed him as an honorary Air Commodore in 1994, and he served as the Sheriff of Mumbai in 2006. Currently, Gautam Singhania is the Chairman and Managing Director of the Raymond Group, an Indian branded textile and fashion retailer founded in 1925.
