Vijaypat Singhania, Former Chairman of Raymond Group, Passes Away at 87

Mumbai, March 28: Vijaypat Singhania, the former Managing Director of the Raymond Group and Padma Bhushan awardee, has passed away at the age of 87. His son, Gautam Singhania, confirmed the news through a social media post on Saturday. The last rites are scheduled to be held on March 29, 2026.

In his post on the social media platform X, Gautam Singhania expressed deep sorrow and grief, stating, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Padma Bhushan Dr. Vijaypat Kailashpat Singhania.” He described his father as a visionary leader, philanthropist, and inspiring personality whose legacy will continue to motivate future generations.

The final rites will take place at the Chandanwadi crematorium in Mumbai. Family and friends have been requested to gather at Haveli on L.D. Ruparrel Road at 1:30 PM.

Vijaypat Singhania will be remembered as a prominent industrialist who played a crucial role in establishing the Raymond Group as a strong and prestigious company. He led the company for nearly two decades and served as chairman until the year 2000, after which he handed over responsibilities to his son Gautam Singhania, transferring a 37 percent stake to him as well.

There were legal disputes between Vijaypat and Gautam Singhania a few years ago, but the matter was later resolved.

Born in 1938, Vijaypat Singhania was not only a successful businessman but also an aviator. In recognition of his contributions, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan in 2006. Additionally, he received an honorary PhD from the London Institute of Technology and Research. The Indian Air Force appointed him as Honorary Air Commodore in 1994, and he served as the Sheriff of Mumbai in 2006. Currently, Gautam Singhania serves as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Raymond Group, which was founded in 1925 and is a leading Indian branded textile and fashion retailer.
