New Delhi: In a significant operation on Thursday morning, Delhi Police’s Special Cell engaged in an encounter with members of gangster Rajesh Bawania’s gang in the Bawana area. During the shootout, Ankit Mann, a close relative and key member of the gang, was injured by a bullet in his leg.
Following the injury, police apprehended Ankit Mann at the spot. He was immediately admitted to a nearby hospital, where his condition remains stable.
According to police officials, the Special Cell received precise information about Ankit Mann’s hideout in the area. Acting on this intelligence, a team was dispatched early in the morning. When the police tried to surround him, the accused opened fire to protect himself. The police responded with retaliatory fire, resulting in Ankit Mann being wounded and subsequently arrested.
Police revealed that Ankit Mann had been absconding for a long time and was wanted in several serious criminal cases, including murder, extortion, and forcible money collection. Further investigations indicated that he was planning to flee abroad to expand the gang’s network and conduct criminal activities from there.
Rajesh Bawania is a well-known gangster in the Delhi-NCR region and is currently in jail. Despite being incarcerated, he has been accused of running his gang from behind bars. His name has appeared in multiple cases involving murder, robbery, gang wars, and extortion. Authorities believe that Ankit Mann played a crucial role in managing the gang’s operations from outside.
This arrest marks an important breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to curb organised crime linked to the Bawania gang in Delhi.
