New Delhi: The Delhi Police has stepped up its investigation into the stone-pelting incident that occurred in the Turkman Gate area. As part of this effort, teams are actively searching for YouTuber Salman, who is accused of attempting to disturb public peace through social media.
Police sources revealed that Salman allegedly called on local residents to gather, which escalated tensions in the area. The investigation also indicates that several influential individuals used WhatsApp groups to incite people to assemble, aiming to disrupt law enforcement and administrative functions.
Further, the police are considering questioning Samajwadi Party MP Mohibullah Nadvi regarding the incident. Nadvi was reportedly present near the site before the stone-pelting began and remained in the vicinity despite requests from senior police officials. Authorities plan to issue a summons to the MP to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
So far, the police have identified around 30 individuals involved in the stone-pelting incident by analysing CCTV footage, body camera recordings, and widely circulated videos. Efforts to apprehend these suspects are underway, with police teams conducting continuous raids in the area.
The stone-pelting occurred on Wednesday morning during an anti-encroachment operation in Turkman Gate. Reports suggest that some local youths spread rumours about the demolition of a mosque, inciting a crowd to gather. Police personnel on duty used necessary force to regain control of the situation. Five police officers sustained injuries during the clash.
The Delhi Police remain committed to restoring law and order and ensuring that those responsible for the violence face appropriate action.
