Ranchi Police have arrested two main accused in connection with the brutal killing of a youth who was run over by a car outside a disco bar at Lalpur Chowk. Based on CCTV footage, the police identified Roshan Gupta as the driver who deliberately ran over the victim.
The incident occurred on the night of January 4, when 26-year-old Ankit Kumar Singh, son of Arun Singh from Harigawa village under Majhiwan police station in Garhwa district, had gone to Moon Disco Bar in Lalpur, Ranchi with his maternal uncle Satyaprakash Singh and friends. Around midnight, as they exited the bar, a group of men from another party started making offensive remarks and abusing them. The confrontation escalated into a fight.
During the scuffle, a white car suddenly struck Ankit and his friends, seriously injuring him and his companion Akash Kumar. Witnesses reported that the accused returned and deliberately ran over Ankit again before fleeing the scene.
Ankit was rushed to Sadar Hospital, Ranchi, and later referred to RIMS in critical condition, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Due to fear, the victim’s uncle and friends took the body back to Garhwa. On January 5, an FIR was registered at Garhwa police station and a postmortem was conducted at Garhwa Sadar Hospital. The case files were subsequently transferred to Lalpur police station, Ranchi for further investigation.
Ankit’s friend Arnav alias Sejal accused Ramnideep Singh (from Leshliganj, Palamu), Roshan Gupta, Anshul, Vicky Khan, and others of involvement in the crime. Following a thorough examination of CCTV footage from the area, police confirmed the white car with registration number JH 01 GD 2216 was driven by Roshan Gupta, who intentionally ran over Ankit.
Police intensified raids after the CCTV evidence surfaced, leading to the arrest of the accused. Roshan Gupta hails from Kala Khajuri village under Bardgarh police station in Garhwa district. The police are currently interrogating the arrested persons and investigating the roles of other individuals involved in the incident.
